On the 21st – 23rd  of May, 2014 in Hotel “Korston”**** (Moscow, Russia) the VIII International research and technology conference “Waterproofing and roofing materials – AQUASTOP” was held by the Moscow Metropolitan and the Russian Union of Builders. It’s the first time when the Conference takes place in the capital of Russia, instead of Saint Petersburg.

AQUASTOP exists since 2001. It is attended by more than 800 leading scientists and 500 specialists of the dry mortars, waterproofing, roofing materials and thermal insulation fields from  all over of the world.

The organizers of the 8th conference became International analytical review “ALITinform: cement, concrete, dry mixtures”, the Moscow Metropolitan, the International Metropolitan Association and the National Roofing Union. The sponsors of the event this year were Sidal Group, Risolin, Triada Holding.

This year more than 130 of delegates from Russia, Belgium, Germany, Azerbaijan, Switzerland, Japan and China attended AQUASTOP. Leading professionals of the industry presented 23 analytical topics. Within the conference, the specialized exhibition was held, where the participants could get information about Sika, Risolin, BASF, Sidal, ALITmix, Triada Holding, Hydrobarrier materials.

The conference focused on the strategic and practical aspects of construction industry, waterproofing, quality control and improvement, as well as application of the international experience of waterproofing materials by Russian metro services.

The conference was opened by the president of R&D center ALIT, the chairperson of the Russian Union of Builders on cement, concrete, dry mixtures department. Nikolai Babushkin, chief engineer and first deputy of the Moscow Metropolitan and Andrei Brodovsky, the chief technologist of the International Metropolitan Association also welcomed participants of the event.

At the end of the day, the guests enjoyed the wonderful gala dinner at the comfortable water trip across the Moskva River.

On May 22 the chairman of the meeting became the chief technologist of the International Metropolitan Association Andrei Brodovsky. After the conference, the organizers proposed a discussion, where the participants of AQUASTOP talked over the issues on waterproofing of the underground and embedded structures of waterlogged soils. Eduard Bolshakov, Alexey Izyumov, Head of Tunneling Construction Service of the Moscow Metropolitan and Dmitry Burin, Head of Tunnel Construction Service of the St. Petersburg Metropolitan, led the discussion. As expected, the listeners have many questions, arguments and suggestions to solve the current problems.

On May 23 a working trip to the intermediate station of the Moscow subway Spartak, which is under construction and is located on the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line near the Tushino airfield, was organized. The station built in 1975 as part of the north of the Krasnopresnenskaya line, never opened and was subsequently preserved, although it remained structurally integral. The participants saw the current work at the Spartak and assessed how the construction methods had evolved. The specialists gained valuable experience and noted the difference between previous and current waterproofing works.

AQUASTOP conference is held once every two years, it has become an excellent discussion platform, which helps leading specialists and scientists from different countries to come together, exchange experiences and establish useful business contacts. AQUASTOP is one of the significant events that enrich the international professional community with new knowledge and outline tendencies of development of building area in the future.
